Knit Australia Nights - Hahndorf - Adelaide Hills - April 2027

Get ready for an unforgettable celebration of craft and community! Knit Australia Nights brings the magic of hands-on learning and creative connection to the heart of the Adelaide Hills this April 2027.

Drawing inspiration from the legendary Knit August Nights—a beloved event running strong since 2009 in Napier, New Zealand—Knit Australia Nights is designed to elevate your skills, spark fresh ideas, and connect you with tutors who are genuinely passionate about their craft.

This exclusive gathering features an incredible lineup of local and international tutors ready to share their expertise. You'll learn from:

Whether you're refining advanced techniques, discovering new approaches to your favourite projects, or simply immersing yourself in a vibrant community of makers, Knit Australia Nights promises an experience that will inspire and energize your creative practice.

Here's a little about the tutors:

Libby Jonson grew up with a deep love of handmade and homemade and still gets a thrill from knitting and sewing her own clothes. Libby has always loved playing with clothing, though it took her time to fully embrace that passion and accept that it was “okay” to love it.

In her mid to late twenties, Libby became absorbed in a corporate career and travel, barely touching her knitting needles or sewing machine for several years. She returned to knitting when she became pregnant with her first child—and hasn’t put her needles down since.

In 2010, with a baby tucked into a sling, Libby travelled to London and spent a transformative day at the yarn festival Knit Nation. That experience changed everything. Soon after, her enthusiasm for writing about knitting grew, leading to the creation of her blog, Truly Myrtle. Today, Libby lives in rural New Zealand with her husband, children, dog, and a menagerie of farm animals. She knits every day, squeezes in sewing where she can, does plenty of cooking, and makes things as often as possible all whilst nurturing her Truly Myrtle business and growing Wardrobe Toolbox community.

Lisa Craig is the creative force behind Lisaf Designs and The Burnt Hill Yarn Company, where her love of fibre, colour, and thoughtful craftsmanship comes together. Known for her warm, nature-inspired aesthetic, Lisa creates knitting patterns and yarns that celebrate texture, detail, and the joy of making by hand.

Her formal journey into textiles began with design studies in Wellington, where her passion for yarn and pattern took root. She has since worked with well-known industry names including Feltex Yarns, Crucci, and Thoroughbred. Lisa began designing patterns for her three children, an experience that sparked the launch of her independent pattern business.

A regular sell-out tutor at Knit August Nights in Napier, New Zealand, Lisa is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading designers of children’s knitwear. Through her work, she invites makers to slow down, explore their creativity, and find as much pleasure in the process as in the finished piece. Her designs can be found at the LisaF Designs website.

Kathryn Trippett is the creative force behind The Australian Wool Store. Kathryn is an Australian dyer, yarn
designer, and small-batch fibre enthusiast based near Sydney, where she hand dyes beautiful yarns and offers
a range of knitting and crochet patterns inspired by colour and texture.
She also shares her passion for fibre through workshops, tutorials, and community events— especially merging stitch crafts such as embroidery with knitting and felting. Kathryn brings these techniques and projects to life for makers of all skill levels. She has taught sell out classes at Knit August Nights in New Zealand and takes frequent craft-based tours to Japan.

Jo-Ann Barr lifelong passion for textiles began with childhood sewing lessons from her grandmother, leading to a degree in Applied Science specialising in Textiles and an extensive career in spinning, knitting, dyeing, finishing and university teaching. Combining her love of wool, fashion and agriculture, Jo has been creating hats for over 32 years, specialising in sculptural wet-felted designs for the past six.

Her business, JAMB Hats, celebrates Australian wool through unique, sustainable, handcrafted creations. Now focusing on her farm, creative business and teaching workshops, Jo shares her expertise and enthusiasm for natural fibres, slow fashion and the art of creating beautiful hats with personality. Jo’s entry ‘Ethereal Heirloom’ won the Woolcraft Competition at this years' Australian Sheep and Wool Show

Sue Mulrennan describes herself as a curious hobby knitter, but she is much more than that. An experienced trades teacher and now working in educational publishing, Sue has been attending KAN for many years and has never shied away from challenging classes, always keen to sharpen her skills and push the boundaries.

After taking the Double Knitting Masterclass with Nathan Taylor in 2019, Sue has mastered the technique and
taught this class at KAN Napier for the past few years, being a sell out. Sues methodical patient teaching style
has made her an instant KAN favorite and it is wonderful to introduce her to our Knit Australia Nights family.

Diana McDougall is the creative heart behind Cabana D’yarna and the self‐proclaimed Queen of Fluff, known for turning traditional knitting techniques into joyful, confidence‐boosting adventures. Based in Southland, New Zealand, but shaped by Eastern European heritage, texture, and a love of community, she teaches with warmth, clarity, and just the right amount of playful drama. She’s delighted to share one of her favourite accessible methods — seamless socks on two needles — inviting knitters of all levels to step into a relaxed, welcoming space where yarn, laughter, and learning intertwine.

Lucinda Winton grew up on the Central Coast of NSW, trained as a chef and moved into travel in 2011, where she now runs her own travel business. Creativity has always been part of her life, from cooking and painting to sewing and, more recently, knitting. She has never been particularly good at sticking to just one creative pursuit, but she has always loved making things and seeing an idea become something real.

Her nanna taught her to sew, and returning to it later in life became a lovely way of reconnecting with her. A friend later taught her to make a pair of pants, which later led to a rather enthusiastic hyper-focus on making bags. She loves bold colours, interesting fabrics and unusual designs, particularly when they come together to create something completely one of a kind.

Lucinda began knitting in November 2025, initially as a way to keep her hands busy and her mind occupied. Already a lover of wool, linen and other natural fibres, she was curious about knitting and quickly found herself down another rabbit hole. Her first project was the Creabea Tolsta Tee in a merino/linen yarn.

What draws Lucinda to making is the combination of creativity and problem-solving. She is intensely curious, loves understanding why things work, comparing options and seeing how different choices affect the finished result. She also enjoys taking complicated ideas and finding simple ways to explain them.

As a relatively new knitter, Lucinda brings a fresh perspective and plenty of curiosity to teaching. Her approach is practical, relaxed and inquisitive, with a willingness to ask the questions that aren’t always obvious and explore the why, not just the how.
